NOVEL QUBIT TYPE
Quantum computing may not be so far off after all especially now that Microsoft has created the equivalent of a semi-conductor for classical computers for quantum systems potentially reducing the arrival time of quantum computers from a matter of decades to just a couple of years.
Microsoft’s breakthrough achievement is not just hype but it is groundbreaking in every sense of the word because it leverages a new type of particle that was literally coaxed into existence. Their topoconductor chip(Majorana) which is based on this miracle particle has greater resistance to external noise and interference which has long served as a major bottlenecks in building highly scalable quantum computers.
Google previously announced Willow(quantum AI chip) which enhanced quantum systems through advanced error correction and here is Microsoft with this massive achievement, which establishes them as a truly dominant force in this realm. Other competitors such as PsiQuantum who utilize photonic(light-based) approaches have made little progress in tackling the infrastructural problem of interference.
Quantum computers offers us an advantage that will solve sophisticated problems that are intractable by classical systems due to their complexity and volatility. It's use cases cuts across logistic challenges, cryptography, and many industrial applications.
