NCCE Calls on Influencers to Champion Truth Ahead of Elections
The National Council for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the EU-UNDP GREAT Project Initiative, has called on influencers and community leaders to become champions of truth as the country prepares for elections.
The call was made during a capacity-building training for influencers and stakeholders held at the Governor's Office in Brikama on Thursday, 9th July 2026, under the theme "Strengthening Influencer Networks for Inclusive Civic Engagement and Sustainable Outreach”.

Supreme Court Declares Auditor General's Removal Unconstitutional, Awards D4 Million in Compensation
The Gambia’s Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, that the forceful removal of Auditor General Modou Ceesay from office back in September 2025 was unconstitutional but stopped short of reinstating him back into office. The ruling also saw the former Auditor General awarded a compensation of D4 million, with his outstanding salary, allowances, pension, and gratuity to be paid to him until the end of his tenure.

Yesterday, 7th July 2026, Askanwi Media published the list of 105 prisoners pardoned by President Adama Barrow on the occasion of Yawm Al-Ashura, although the offences for which they were convicted were not disclosed. Our reporter has since received a crucial update that a Private Member's Bill currently before Parliament seeks to regulate this process and require the offences of all persons granted a pardon to be published in the Gazette.

Reparations Commission Updates Victims at WAVE Human Rights Festival

The High Court Annex in Banjul on Monday adjourned Environment Minister Rohey John Manjang's D50 million defamation lawsuit against investigative journalist Kebba Ansu Manneh to 23rd June 2026.
The adjournment followed the absence of defence counsel, who informed the court through a letter that he was unwell and unable to attend proceedings. However, the court noted that no medical certificate or supporting documentation was provided to substantiate the claim.
