Notaries Associations Warns Public of Fraudulent Stamps for Illegal Activities
This is a press release from the Association of Notaries warning the public of the fraudulent use of stamps through impersonation and the use of stamps owned by deceased persons conducting illegal activities. More in the presser below.
By the ANC-JP, issued on 25th August 2024
The Association of Notaries, Commissioners of Oaths and Affidavits and Justices of Peace in The Gambia wish you inform the general public that there are people calling themselves agents; assistants and others impersonating as titles mentioned above and conducting illegal and fraudulent activities.
The Association have also learnt that some people are using stamps of deceased who were once appointed and they are no more existing.
Some people have fraudulently duplicated their stamps and using other people to practice on their behalf and or using wrong designations on their stamps / embursers; whilst others are using their secretarial businesses to print out related documents without authorization from the appointed officials, similarly members of the public that may require such documents, must go through the proper channel.
This has brought alarming concern to the Register General, Judiciary, the Immigration, the Gambia Police Force, the Diplomatic and Foreign Missions, and other stake holders.
Whilst the Police and Immigration are on the watch, the members are also empowered by the Juduciary to report to them and the Police of such maleficence, perjuries, forgeries or misrepresentations etc.
Stamps designers are also warned to take due diligence before making stamps or embursers and printings/making copies of such documents for any person.
Names of enrolled registered members 2024/2025 can be found in an accredited list at the disposal of major stakeholders and partners; and are in possession of their membership identification cards.
Anyone found wanting/culpable or involved in such illegal, clandestine and fraudulent acts may be prosecuted and are advised to desist from such immediately.
The general public is urged to be very vigilant and report such unscrupulous people to the Association members, the office of the Chief Justice, nearest Police or Immigration post.
We count on your support and cooperation.
Signed amadou Touray President and Seedy Jallow Secretary General
