MoJ Commends German Court’s Life Conviction of Bai Lowe
THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA COMMENDS THE DECISION OF THE GERMAN'S COURT ON MR BAI LOWE

The Attorney General's Chambers and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of The Gambia welcomes the decision rendered by the German court regarding the sentencing of Bai Low a former member of the paramilitary during President Jammeh’s regime to life imprisonment for being a member of a death squad that assassinated opponents of former President Jammeh alongside former journalist Deyda Hydara.
The Ministry wishes to express profound gratitude to the German Government for its unwavering support, as well as their ongoing cooperation with The Gambia Government in its Transitional Justice process.
The pronouncement by the German court marks a significant legal milestone, illustrating unequivocally that irrespective of the location where such egregious crimes are perpetrated and regardless of the concealment efforts of the perpetrators, global accountability mechanisms will ultimately apprehend them.
Contrary to reports circulating online, the Ministry of Justice wishes to reiterate that it has on numerous occasions provided Mutual Legal Assistance to the higher regional court in Germany for the identification of key witnesses to participate and testify before the competent German court and the facilitation of the interrogation of the witnesses for the case.
The Attorney General's Chambers and Ministry of Justice remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborating on other Mutual Legal Assistance cases aligned with the interests of The Gambia Government. The Ministry of Justice remains resolute in its dedication to upholding the principles of justice and ensuring that all individuals involved in heinous crimes are brought to account for their actions.
