MUSIGAM Elects Executive at End of Nov 2024 Congress

The Triennial Congress of the Musicians’ Union of The Gambia (MUSIGAM) was hosted by its Executive, led by President, Pa Momodou Sarr, at Alliance Francaise Banjul, on 30th November 2024.
MUSIGAM is an organization created to represent musicians in The Gambia who are ready to act for change and use music to educate, entertain, encourage peace, promote culture, unity and prosperity amongst Gambians.
Gambian musicians and delegates from different associations attended the event, including music lovers and sympathizers of the Music Union. The Congress which is a legal requirement, enshrined in the MUSIGAM constitution to be conducted every three years was organized by the out-going executive of the Union.
The program kicked off at 12:30 midday with renowned Gambian artistes in attendance such as Jali Madi, Hussain Dada, Lena B, MLK, Keshla, Killa Ace, Nina Sambou, Allen Jay, Legendary Xalam player Pa Jali Mattar, Sambou Da Unstoppable, Aria, Mariama Jobe, amongst others.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Pa Momodou Sarr, and opened by the outgoing PRO Mr. Muhammed Sumareh, who introduced members of the high-table and welcomed delegates on behalf of the outgoing executive. Mr. Ali Cham aka Killa Ace, the outgoing Secretary General of the Union, thanked the audience in his statement for gracing the occasion and proceeded to inform the general assembly of the agenda of the Congress.
Mr Babucarr Sambou Alias Sambou Da Unstoppable thanked the delegates for answering to the call of their union, he however went on to lament the low turnout. He urged artists to acknowledge and empower their union and take such events as an opportunities to contribute and bring about positive changes.
Out-going President, Pa Momodou Sarr gave an overview of the Union’s efforts to reform the music union and highlighted the challenges faced by the Union. He called on Gambian artistes to remain united and take charge of their own affairs.
This was followed by a presentation of the Activity Report of the Union by the out-going Secretary General Mr. Killa Ace, who detailed a comprehensive overview of the Union’s achievements. After the presentation the outgoing President on behalf of the treasurer gave a comprehensive financial report of the union.
ELECTION OF NEW EXECUTIVE
Vacant positions in the constitution were keenly and fairly contested in an election overseen and conducted by stakeholder representatives’ which was made up of a three member panel namely Ebrima Darboe commonly known as Frings (Artist manager), Thea Sofie Espenes a Swedish nurse and Buff Baldeh a media journalist respectively.

Martin Jeng as Financial Director, and
Nina Sambou as Assistant Secretary General respectively.
