Civil society organisations WAVE and ICTJ held a two-day youth and media event on transitional justice and social cohesion. The event, organised by the Women’s Association for Victims Empowerment (WAVE), was held on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th, 2025, at the NaNA Conference Center in Bakau.

Gambian authorities clashed with activists on 8th May 2025, as police arrested several demonstrators who were protesting the government's handling of former President Yahya Jammeh’s seized assets. The protesters, who gathered near the Arch in Banjul, demanded greater transparency in the sale of Jammeh’s assets, which many citizens believe undermines the country’s transition to justice and accountability. Youth-led association, Aims Forward Foundation has called on Gambian youths to take up more  responsibility and engage in community development as a way of helping the government in nation-building.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Bakary Badjie revealed that “through the Minister’s support, National Enterprise Development Initiative in the next few days will be giving out a total of D1.5 million to young people who have qualified to be given a grant to start their business or to expand the existing businesses”.

A police statement announced that UTG student Kebba Secka was brutally stabbed to death by a police officer on 7th July 2025.
